Marvel Studios made a major splash with their big-screen announcements at Comic-Con. Instantly, films like “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” and “Guardians of the Galaxy” rose to the top of our must-see list.
Also on that list is “Ant-Man” from director Edgar Wright. Though the filmmaker finally showed off much-anticipated test footage from the long-discussed film, the project remains without a release date at the moment. But according to a new report, that could well change very soon.
Latino Review reports that “Ant-Man” is gearing up for a London shoot as soon as “Thor: The Dark World” wraps itself up. That would potentially put the pint-sized hero on the big-screen in 2014, adding a third film to Marvel’s calendar in a year that already includes the “Cap” sequel and “Guardians.”
No one officially involved with the project has commented on the report at this time, so take this purely as a rumor for now. But we’re as psyched as anyone to actually, finally lay eyes on that “Ant-Man” movie, so consider our fingers firmly crossed that this ends up being much more than a rumor.
On a related note, Marvel Studios co-president Louis D’Esposito recently confirmed to MTV News that the company was exploring the possibility of introducing a third movie to their current model of two films per year, adding credence to the “Ant-Man” rumor.
“The temptation is to try a third, and maybe we will,” he said. “But we’re a small group. It’s very, very difficult. We’re unique as a studio. We’re not just the studio, we produce the films ourselves. It requires a lot of hands on time and effort. You can only stretch it so much before it breaks. So we’re very mindful of that. We have to check our enthusiasm. We can’t be overly aggressive. We still want to make quality films, and that’s the most important thing for us.”
